Our Foundation Stage
Welcome to our Foundation Stage transition page.
Usually we would be preparing for our transition welcome meetings with new Foundation parents. We would be welcoming parents in to look around the setting, experience lessons and meet our Foundation Staff. Children would also have the chance to take part in some play and stay afternoons.
Sadly, due to the lockdown and the restrictions, we are unable to offer these facilities at the moment. We so desperately want to meet you and your children and welcome you into our St Michael's family.
As it is not possible to do our usual transition, we have produced some videos to share which give you an insight into our Foundation Stage. The first gives guidance of the welcome packs that have now been delivered to all our new children's homes. The three further videos give tours of our Foundation Stage classrooms and some of our Foundation Stage outdoor areas. We do have other outdoor environments that we access regularly, including a natural forest space and our sports field.
Please ensure that you watch the videos below, as they will hopefully answer many questions that you may have.
Below is our school uniform policy, with details of retailers to buy from.
There is an online retailer that our uniform can be ordered from for delivery: School Trends.
Breakfast and After School Club
Making Friends run both a day nursery and a breakfast/after school club on site at St Michael's. This provision must be booked directly through Making friends - contact details can be found by clicking this link: Making Friends@St Michael's.
Free School Milk
You will also need to register your child with Cool Milk.
Pupils are entitled to free milk every school day up until the age of 5, but they must be registered for us to receive it. If you choose to continue with milk after your child turns 5, this will need to be ordered and paid for through the same website.
Every child in Foundation Stage is offered a free snack of fresh fruit or vegetable every day at school. This is supplied by school, please do not send alternative snacks with your child.
As explained in the starter packs and video, school meals are free to all pupils in Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2.
You must register with Lunchhound to order lunches and families can preorder meals well in advance.
Choices can be changed up until the evening before and usually include a sandwich or jacket potato choice, in addition to a variety of hot meals.
We are really looking forward to meeting you!
What will my child need to be able to do before starting school?
This is a question that we often get asked as parents worry about whether their child is ‘school ready’. The answer is - each child is unique and special. They will be at exactly the right stage for who they are when they start school and we will build on what they already know.
We encourage you to think about helping them to
- be independent with their toileting and personal hygiene,
- to use a knife, fork and spoon,
- to be able to put their own coat on,
- to understand that starting school is going to be a positive and exciting time for them.
This year more than ever, many children beginning their reception year will have missed a large chunk of time at nursery, but that is ok - we will pick up from where they left off, do not worry
