Oxford Owl have a selection of free ebooks to read and they are grouped by age.

In year 1, we have a broad and balanced curriculum.  Throughout the year we will cover interesting and exciting topics, these include:

Once Upon a Time

Moon Zoom

Dinosaur Planet

Paws, Claws and Whiskers

Each topic will include a visit or educational experience to enhance the children's learning and bring their learning alive.

Each week your child will read with an adult at school and this will be recorded in their reading record on the right hand side.  We encourage parents/carers to read as often as possible at home, please aim for a minimum of three times a week, and write a comment in their child's reading record. We encourage children to be independent and therefore children are responsible for changing their own reading books once finished.

We welcome all parents and carers to our reading morning which is held every Thursday 8:40-9:00 am.

Spellings will be given on a Friday to be tested the following Friday. Spellings will include number names (zero to twenty), days of the week, months of the year as well as words linked to our daily phonics sessions.

Homework will be given out each Friday and will include both English and Maths. We ask that homework is handed in on the following Wednesday. We encourage children to do their own homework as it is always better to have a go and make mistakes rather than to not try at all.
