Teaching Assistant: Mrs Carter
A little bit about me:
I have worked at St Michael’s for 8 years and I LOVE the school, the children and the staff.
I live in Retford with my husband, my 18-month old daughter and my cat – Pebble.
I am RE lead in the school.
The things I enjoy are painting, colouring and singing.
My favourite things:
I love my family!!! They mean the world to me. The best days are when everyone is together and we make special memories together.
A special place I like to visit is Northumberland. I have been going since I was a baby. Nothing beats the feeling of sand between your toes after a long coastal walk.
I love being a teacher because…
I LOVE the light bulb moments. When a child understands how to achieve their learning.
“OH, now I get it!”
Ready, Respectful, Safe
A very warm welcome to Year 4! In Year 4, we have an inspiring and motivating curriculum with themes covering each term throughout the year. Curricular subjects are taught within the theme so that the curriculum is meaningful and relevant to the children.
Getting in Touch
As we are still coping with the spread of COVID, unfortunately parents are not able to enter the classroom. If there is something that you would like to discuss please don't hesitate to message me through Class Dojo or by telephoning the school directly and I will get back to you as quickly as possible. Class Dojo will be our way of keeping you up to date with any messages from the class and give a weekly update on home learning.
This half term, our PE days are a Monday and a Thursday. Please make sure your child has the correct kit in school. Children will require indoor and outdoor PE kit this half term, including suitable footwear.
For health and safety reasons children should not be wearing any jewellery to take part in PE or sport, particularly ear rings. These should be removed before coming to school on a PE day.
We want to create children who have a lifelong love of reading, so reading and books have a really high profile in our class. The children are encouraged to read a range of books, and particularly those which they are interested in and motivated by. Your child is always welcome to bring in their own books to recommend to the class.
It is expected that children read four times per week at home, with reading records signed by an adult at home. If children make no attempt to do the homework, it is expected across school that they will stay in during their break time to complete it.
As well as the Year 3 and 4 spelling list, children will continue to follow the RWI spelling scheme. Please see the log book for the rule and words your child needs to practise.
Our homework is sent out on a Friday and should be returned by Thursday. If children make no attempt to do the homework, it is expected across school that they will stay in during their break time to complete it. Each week children will receive a reading homework as well as a MyMaths activity to consolidate learning from class.
Fluency In Maths - Times Tables
Make sure you are learning all of your times tables at home so that you can earn your rewards! Children can practise their times tables skills at home on TT Rockstars. By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables and corresponding division facts for up to 12×12.
At the enf of the year, children will complete a multiplication check - testing their quick recall of multiplication facts. Please encourage children to be accessing Reflex throughout the week to practice and apply these facts.
