Welcome to 2P
Class Teacher: Mrs H Price
Teaching Assistants: Miss Walker and Mrs Bell
A very warm welcome to Year 2!
In Year 2 we have an inspiring and motivating curriculum with themes covering a term or half term throughout the year. Curricular subjects are taught within the theme so that the curriculum is meaningful and relevant to the children.
This Term our topic is Towers, Tunnels and Turrets
Our aim is to develop children's lifelong love of reading. Reading and books have a really high profile in our class. Children are encouraged to read a range of books, particularly those which they are interested in and motivated by. Our authors of the half term are chosen for interest and enjoyment and the children are able to choose a levelled reading book for themselves. It is expected that children will read a minimum of four times a week at home. Please ensure that reading records are signed by an adult at home and brought to school daily.
Your child is always welcome to bring in their own books to recommend to the class.
Parents and Carers are invited to stay and read with their child every Friday morning 8.40-9.00 am.
In year 2 we follow the RWI Spelling programme. Please see your child's spelling log book for the rule and spellings your child needs to practice. In addition to the RWI programme we will also focus on the year 1 and 2 common exception words. The expectation is that children will be able to spell these accurately in their independent writing.
Homework will be given on Fridays and should be returned the following Thursday. In addition to your child's homework folder, maths activities and games will be allocated weekly on Active Learn (Please see the link below)
Our PE days are Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Please ensure that your child has full PE kit at school on these days including appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear. Due to health and safety jewellery must not be worn for PE. Earrings should be removed before PE, however if this is not possible then plasters should be used to cover the earrings.
