Welcome to 1L!
Class Teacher: Miss A. Leaney
Teaching Assistant: Miss K. Aftab
In year one we have a broad and balanced curriculum. This is covered by a range of interesting and exciting topics such as:
Paws, claws and whiskers.
We aim for all of our topics to include an educational trip/experience to support the learning and to help bring the topics to life.
Your child will read independently twice a day at school and will be heard by an adult at least twice a week at school. We encourage parents to read as much as they can at home (at least three times a week) and to record this in their child's reading record. There will be a reading club on a Friday to support children who need additional support with reading. We encourage independence in year one so therefore your child is responsible for changing their own book once they have read it.
We have a parents reading morning every Thursday 08:40-09:00 please feel free to come along and read with your child.
Homework will be handed out every Thursday and we ask for it to be handed in on a Tuesday. There will be a homework club available on a Thursday to support children with any misconceptions. Our homework will be based around our topics and what we have covered in literacy and numeracy that week. We encourage children to do their own homework as it is always better to have a go and make mistakes than to not to try at all.
Our new spellings will be given out on a Friday to be tested on the following Friday. We ask that you learn the spellings at home in a random order as that is how they will be tested. Our spellings will relate to our daily phonic sessions including new sounds taught that week and tricky words, common exception words, days of the week, months of the year and number names.
