Learning to be the best that we can be with the love of God

PE

The profile of PE at St Michael’s is significantly on the up. Over the last year we have entered more competitions, accessed a fuller range of sports in our PE lessons and enabled the children to take part in more physical activity. We strive to ensure that children have access to 2 hours of high quality PE each and every week, in addition to physical activity opportunities at lunch time.

Alongside the curriculum entitlement, we host a variety of different after school clubs including dance and multi-sports. We are beginning to work closely with local providers to allow us to broaden our horizons and offer more after-school activities which link to community clubs.

Through the School Games programme and our subscription to Active Fusion we are able to access a large number of competitive opportunities, which we prepare our children for through PE. These include, cross country, orienteering, football, sports hall athletics to name a few. The children at St Michael’s enjoy attending and representing our school at these events and use all the sporting values outlined by the School Games.

In addition to providing a full range of sports and activities during curriculum time, we also provide Year 5 with swimming lessons to ensure that the majority of children know how to swim and are confident in and around water.

This year, we have Miss Walker from Active Fusion coming to school to work with all year groups to develop their skills. Each half term Miss Walker is helping to prepare the children for some form of competition. She promotes resilience, determination, confidence and cooperation through her lessons which are essential values in life.

At St Michael’s we have developed a Health and Well-being Crew who are responsible for leading the way with active travel and promoting healthy, active lifestyles at school.
