Learning to be the best that we can be with the love of God

Class 4M

Teacher: Mr McCurdy

Teaching Assistants: Mrs K Brown

Ready, Respectful, Safe

A very warm welcome to Year 4! In Year 4 we have an inspiring and motivating curriculum with themes covering a term or half term throughout the year. Curricular subjects are taught within the theme so that the curriculum is meaningful and relevant to the children.

PE days

This half term, our PE days are a Thursday (Miss Walker - Netball) and a Friday (Target Games). Please make sure your child has the correct kit in school. Children will require indoor and outdoor PE kit this half term, including suitable footwear.

For health and safety reasons children should not be wearing any jewellery to take part in PE or sport, particularly ear rings. These should be removed before coming to school on a PE day.

Spellings

As well as the Year 3 and 4 spelling list, children will continue to follow the RWI spelling scheme. Please see the log book for the rule and words your child needs to practise.

Active Learn

You can practise your maths, spelling and grammar skills by logging on to: www.activelearnprimary.co.uk. Work will be allocated every half term by the class teacher.

Reading

We want to create children who have a lifelong love of reading, so reading and books have a really high profile in our class. The children are encouraged to read a range of books, and particularly those which they are interested in and motivated by. Your child is always welcome to bring in their own books to recommend to the class.

It is expected that children read three times per week at home, with reading records signed by an adult at home. If children make no attempt to do the homework, it is expected across school that they will stay in during their break time to complete it.

Homework

Our homework is sent out on a Friday and should be returned by Wednesday. If children make no attempt to do the homework, it is expected across school that they will stay in during their break time to complete it.

Make sure you are learning all of your times tables at home so that you can earn your rewards! Children can practise their times tables skills at home on TT Rockstars. By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables and corresponding division facts for up to 12×12.

Autumn Term Topic: Wonderful Water

This half term we will be exploring the topic ‘Wonderful Water’. Children will be carrying out a range of cross curricular learning through this topic and will have opportunities to produce some fantastic science work.

This half term we will also introduce the children to narratives. We will use the Pixar short film clip 'The Blue Umbrella'. We will be watching the clip and thinking about language which represents how the characters feel.
